myLot Discussions| Check Your Credit Card Bills!!! | | Please, review your credit card statements very closely. I recently had a small charge ($80) appear on my card. Had I not looked at each transaction very closely, I would have never noticed that someone got ahold of my credit card information and used it. Usually I don't check my credit card bill to thoroughly. I often have a look at them online a few times a month so that I'm not too surprised when the bill comes in, but I just look at the total amount owing, not the details Of The transactions. But since resolving to take control of my finances this year, I started checking my credit card bills very closely. And low and behold I found a charge that I didn't make for $80! After a few phone calls to my credit card company, and then to the company that charged me, it turns out that it is for a long distance call that was made from Brazil to the US, using my credit card. I live in Canada and have never been to Brazil. Someone got ahold of my credit card number, expiry date, and the 3-digit code on the back of my card. I canceled my card and the charge has been reversed. This experience got me thinking, how many other charges have ever...
| | How do credit cards work | | Unlike the olden days, you do not have to carry large sums of money when you go shopping. All you need to do is take your card with you while shopping, select whatever you want to buy, hand over your card to the cashier to make the payment and walk out with your purchase. So simple, isn't it? When you hand over your card to the cashier to pay for your purchases he takes it and swipes it in the merchant's point of sale (POS) system. This system is connected to the merchant's bank via a communication link. This POS system helps in verifying your data by using an electronic verification system. The details verified include the validity of your card and the availability of sufficient balance on your card to pay for the purchases. This data is available on the magnetic strip, present at the Back Of The card.Once your details are transmitted to the merchant's bank, they are sent to your bank which then authorises the payment if all the details are in order. This authorisation is then sent to the merchant's bank, which then blocks the amount from your credit limit so as to reimburse it to the merchant later on.The authorisation... | |

But credit card serves more than convenience. It encourages us to spend more, to buy unnecessary stuff. So have you ever thought of discard your credit card to cut down your monthly bill? The most effective way i think is to use CASH as much as possible.

| | I'm About To Hang Myself In The Oven... (Rant...long) | | As some ppl know from other discussions I’ve made, we have been having more than our share of stress right now. First, Hubby’s pc went down forcing us into the position of having to buy a new one…did I mention we just bought his 6 months ago and no, the warranty isn’t any good now…it was only good for 60 days. Then I find out after 8 months of payments to my student loan that was supposed to have it just about paid off, they scammed me and wanted me to pay another $1300. But the biggie was still to come. Last Friday I woke up to one of our bank accounts being $177. Overdrawn. Now, we have 3 accounts…a primary, a second one for just online stuff and a third for our savings. It was the second one for online stuff that was overdrawn. So I called the bank and told them that we didn’t authorize these charges and what do we do. The manager put a “hard hold” on the account and canceled the debit cards. I also got the phone numbers for the company that charged us so I could call them. The manager told me that with the hard hold on the account that nothing would be able to come in or go out of the account but they couldn’t close it as long as it had a negative balance. Well, from what... | |
| | Do scammers have no shame!!! | | Below will be a story that I put up at a web site called "who calls me?" I will also put the website at the end of this discussion so you can see the other stories that have happened to other people. But this all came to a boil on friday afternoon. LOL!!!My S/O's mother got the call from them and they gave her originally a 607-428-0037 to call back they harrassed and threatened her that she would be implicated in this and that she had to appear for court on the following week and she did give them our number when they called here they left a different number than they gave her they gave us this 408-404-3021. The first guy told her that his name was Sean Miller . When my BF called back they told him that they were the United Investigations Agency .. They also told him that the police were on there way to arrest him for internet fraud. Then the guy that he called said that he needed to pay 900 to settle this. When my bf told him that he didn't have that kind of money the guy then lowered it to 600. My bf continued with he doesn't have a credit card or Checking account the guy got frustrated said he was transferring him to the person who was at the courthouse right now since... | |

| | At last, I got Paypal Verified, Yehey! | | I am really very happy today because I got my 4-digit code at Unionbank and after a minute after I had encoded the digits on Paypal, I got verified! It took me almost two months to do this because Paypal was denying my card. You know why? Because I am nuts. The security code that I was entering was the code on the Back Of my card, but the correct code to be encoded are the CVV codes which are indicated on a paper given by Unionbank. I just read on a forum that it was the right thing to do and in a matter of seconds, Paypal accepted my card. I think Unionbank should include this on their details. to pay 900 to settle this. When my bf told him that he didn't have that kind of money the guy then lowered it to 600. My bf continued with he doesn't have a credit card or Checking account the guy got frustrated said he was transferring him to the person who was at the courthouse right now since the hearing was today. So those two tihngs didn't match for me and I pointed this out to my other half. He then was transferred and was speaking to Travis who then lowered it down to 300.00. Does that sound a little desperate to you to have them drop 600 dollars in a... | |
| | I am so pissed at Walmart Customer Service!! | | I bought some clothes for my son on tax free weekend. He was not with me, so I just go the size clothes he normally wears. Well, NONE of them fit him. Ok, fine! We go back to Walmart and he comes with me this time. Since I bought them on tax free weekend I had toreturn them in order to get bigger sizes, so I would have to pay the tax on them. Sounds dumb to me, but ok. The service desk lady insists she has to put it back on my debit card instead of giving me cash. I told her that I was going to be spending the money as soon as I walked away from the service desk, so was she sure it would go right back on my card otherwise give me a gift card instead. She insisted that it would automatically go back on my card. Ok, fine. I get the money back on my card and then go buy the other clothes. Friday I got an overdraft notice in the mail from the bank. Because the service desk worker LIED to me[em]angry[/em], I bounced something. I called the bank. By the time I got the overdraft notice I had bouncedFIVE things![em]angry[/em] I got all of the charges reversed thank goodness. Have you ever had anything like this happen to you? Should I call Walmart to complain too? | |
| | Got Credit Card Debt? Ten Tactics to Use Right Now to Get It Under Control | | The most important thing to realize is that the best solution to credit card debt is a long-term one, not a “quick fix.” You’re going to need to make some alterations to your spending, because if you’re racking up that much credit card debt, you’re spending beyond your means.
Here’s a ten step plan for getting rampant credit card debt under control.
1. Hide Your Credit Cards
The first step is to hide your credit cards in a place where you could access them in an absolute emergency, but that they’d be very difficult to find. Put them in a little box way in the back up in the attic. Freeze them in a big chunk of ice. Hide them in the back of the cupboard at your mother’s house. Make sure it’s somewhere where you can’t easily access them.
Then, go to every online account where you use a credit card regularly and delete your credit card numbers there. Amazon. PayPal. World of Warcraft. All of them. Make sure that you’re not forgetting anything. If you absolutely must retain a service, use a debit card number instead of a credit card number.
Why do this? Your credit card balances need to go down, not up, and the biggest step in doing that is to break yourself of the habit of using...
| | Friends Long Gone. | | This post is kinda long, and for that I apologize. I just felt the need to get this down, and posted. When I think back to my childhood, I have a lot of happy memories. Playing in the fields behind the house with my sister and my friends, mom calling us in dinner and then heading right back out again. Days spent on the East coast, building Sandcastles on the beach and riding the rides at the fairground. Simple pleasures with close friends that meant so much to me.Fast forward to my high school days. I hung around with the same group of friends, 3 of us, and though we were all in mostly different classes, we always knew where to find each other at Break and Lunch. Those same friends are the ones I hung out with after School, crammed for exams with, and generally had a laugh with. We made a pact that when we finished school, we’d all stay in touch. Not one of us kept it.The last time that same group of friends all got together was for my 18th birthday party. The eldest one of us, about to turn 19 had just found out she was pregnant - a surprise to her as much as to the rest of us. We were excited for her though. She would be the first one of us to have a baby.A couple... | |
