| Who knows how the candy cane came about? | | The Meaning of the
Candy Cane
The fascinating story behind the candy cane ...
The birth, ministry, and death of
Jesus Christ are signified through
the elements of the candy cane~ The STRIPES symbolize pain inflicted upon
Jesus before his death on the cross and a bold
stripe to represent the blood he shed for
mankind. The three stripes can also represent
the power and presence of the Trinity
(the Father, Son and Holy Spirit). The smell and taste of PEPPERMINT relate
to the herb hyssop. Psalm 51:7 states,
"Purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean,
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow." The candy cane is meant to be shared --
broken into pieces for all to share. That
reminds us of Jesus' words, "This is my body
which is broken for you" (1 Cor. 11:24).
What a sweet way to share the Gospel! And you just thought it was good candy:-) | |
| | Candy Cane tea? You bet! | | Just came from Target and they have the most amazing (at least sounding) teas! Candy cane, Gingerbread, cookie dough and vanilla almond! My GD is goig to love hte candy cane one! I was thinking of saving it for her stocking, but can't wait to have a cup of tea with her so I think I'll just let it be ours to enjoy! I used to grow spearmint from stock that has been growing for 30 years, but during those bad fires here in Ca I lost what little bit the possum didn't eat weeks before! We used to "harvest" it, and make fresh brewed mint tea. We miss that! The candy cane will be her favorite, followed by the cookie dough! I will be taste testing in the morning! | |

| Crazy Candy Canes | | It's crazy how far candy canes have come since the classic red and white peppermint hook. I was at CVS the other day and saw some selections I've never seen before. An all red, red velvet candy cane. A jolly rancher candy cane, Hershey's chocolate mint candy cane, sour patch candy cane, Starburst sours candy cane, and vanilla swirl candy cane. Seriously it's like candy cane heaven. I ended up buying the sour patch cany cane because they seem the most different with sour stuff all over the candy cane. Have you ever bought crazy candy canes before? If so what kind? Which one's your favorite? | |
| | My nephew could hurt himself! How would you | | stop a child from sucking a candy cane down to a point of death. I mean seriously it looks like a lethal weapon. And then he goes and walks around the house with it. He is 12 and should know better. But when I try and take it away from him, he just laughs. He is a good kid, but he finds this hysterical. | |

| ~I made a new one last night!~ | | I made some Candy Cane Toffee last night. I know it sounds weird, but it is really good. I made my regular toffee and mixed in some crushed candy cane and a little bit of peppermint oil. It is de-lish! Does it sound like something you would try? Or does it sound too weird to you? | |
| | Have you heard of the Real Story of the Candy Cane and what it represents? | | Have you heard of theReal Story of the Candy Cane and what it represents?Legend has it that in the 18th Century somewhere in Europe any public display of Christianity was forbidden. No crosses or Bibles were allowed and the Christians were greatly oppressed. One old man, a candy maker by profession, was particularly distressed by this. He loved the Lord with all of his heart and couldn't stand to not share that love with the world. His heart especially went out to the children when Christmas drew near and no one was allowed to have a nativity scene (or crèche`) on display in their homes. He prayed for God to show him some way to make Christmas gifts for the children which would teach them the story of Christ. The answer was the candy cane. The candy cane was in the shape of a shepherd"s staff to show them Jesus is our Shepherd and we are His flock. A sheep follows his own shepherd, knows his voice, and trusts him and knows that he is totally safe with him. The sheep will follow no other shepherd but their own. This is how we are to be with Jesus if we truly follow Him ( John 10:11; Psalm 23:1; Isaiah 40:11) Upside down the candy cane was a "J", the first letter... | |
