myLot Discussions| knitting needles & crochet hooks | | How do you keep yours? I used to have mine in a pencil case but I now can't find one big enough so they are in an old shoe box. I now think thye box is too big as I want to try & cut my storage down...I want to hear your ways so I can get some ideas of my own.
| | Knitting Needles | | Hi knitters!Recently the Hancock Fabrics store here closed down. Every thing was 75 - 90% off the lowest ticketed price. Before the sale I had very few knitting needles, I would only buy a set when I started a new project that required a different set of needles. They are super expensive, not like with crochet where you can buy a whole set of the sizes for less than $10!Anyway, I was able to go needle crazy - big ones, little ones, circulars, double pointeds, etc. My question to you is what do you use to organize your needles? I can't stand for things to be thrown away, I need something that can hold and have all my needles organized. Any help is appreciated, thanks! | |
| | What Kind Of Knitting Needles Do You Use? Wher Do You Buy Them? | | I have used metal ones and plastic ones. My favorite are the nickel plated kind. Can you get long needles that are nickel plated? The ones I have are the tips for knitting in the round. I like the large size needles as they are much easer on my hands. Like size 15 and up. I never tried the wodden or ivory ones. Would you please tell me what kind you like and where you buy them? Thank you.:D | |
| | How do you organize your knitting needles? | | My needles are such a mess! Many of them are kept in a big vase. I started doing this because I liked the way it looked- like a boquet of knitting needles. However, it's easy for the small ones to get lost in the sea of needles. I also have a big plastic zipper bag full of knitting needles, gagues, row counters, etc. My mom got me a huge lot of knitting stuff at an auction, so I accumulated a lot of needles and notions quickly. How do you store your needles? | |
| | Bamboo Knitting Needles | | Today I found an Asian discount store and found double pointed bamboo knitting needles for $1.50 for a set of 4. At craft stores those run about $18.00. I couldn't pass them up. I got 3 different sizes. Double pointed needles are used to make hats & socks and other tubular items. I'll try them out tomorrow and see how it goes. | |
| | I made my own knitting needles once. | | They are double pointed needles I made out of wooden dowels. I'm trying to post a photo but w/ the new mylot rules I'm not sure I can.
If the photo shows up, it's a hat I knitted for an online friend while on the train. She picked the colors. I mailed it to her and she loved having it.
| | What is your favorite type of knitting needles? | | I prefer wood knitting needles, because they are easier to learn with and are warm. However, I like the speed of aluminum (not to mention the click, clack). Wha is your favorite type of knitting needle and why? | |
| | Do you have any things made by your ancestors? | | I have several things dotted around the house that were made by some of my long-dead relatives. Mainly small bits of furniture - some not very good, but precious all the same. I think my favourites are these knitting needles made by my great-grandfather, who was born in 1853, I'm not sure when he made them, but I would guess in the 1920s. They are 30cm long, so they are big, and you have to use thick wool, but it means that you can knit things quite quickly! Do you have any things made by your ancestors? | |
| | If the zombie apocalypse were to happen tomorrow what weapons do you have on | | hand right now to defend yourself? Im not talking guns, knives, machetes and that kind of stuff. Im talking maybe one time use to a few time use stuff, to stuff that is around your house that you could, with a few minutes turn into a weapon? Now, right around me in my apartment. Since well I did look when I first moved in of course lol. I have my keyboard, might be useful once, well actually I have two keyboards lol, dvd player, that would last longer. My monitor. The poles I hang my clothes on in my closet. The shower curtain rod, which would take a little longer to get down since need a screw driver to take out the screws. One of the railing under my bed. A shelf for my DVD case that I didnt have room for. A few screwdrivers I could have on backup just in case, my hammer of course. I guess if I could actually life the 40 or so pound thing, I could use my computer tower, that really would be a one time use lol, also my TV. I have done it Irish:D Hehehe. Now no more need to be tapping of the foot. Gave me an idea for another one too lol. | |
| | Do you like to receive knitting supplies as gifts? | | Because everyone knows I like to knit, I sometimes receive knitting tools or yarn as gifts. This can range from useful things like double pointed needles that I don't already own to someone's yarn stash that they don't use anymore to novelty items like glow in the dark knitting needles. I enjoy these gifts for the most part. But my sister in law who knits doesn't really like to receive knitting stuff - she prefers to buy her own. How about you? | |
