| String or Strip quilt blocks | | I recived a huge box of sewing trims from the family after my good friend died. She and I had shared our love of sewing for a long time. Many of the trims are ribbons and braids that I would not normally use, and I wanted to use them in a project to remember my friend.
I decided to use them in some string quilt blocks. I cut squares of backing or base fabric larger than I will want the finished block, that will allow me to trim it up nicely. I am attatching the ribbons with a decrotive stitch on my sewing machine and I plan on using the same shade of blue thread through-out.
This is a picture of the first two blocks. As you can see there will be a couple of ways of arranging the blocks and I haven't decided on how I will do that yet. I think I will use the finished blocks in a curtain to cover some shelving where I store extra crafting materials. | |
| | Quilt Blocks | | I have found a great website for free quilt block patterns. The web address is: http://www.quilterscache.com/QuiltBlocksGalore15.htmlIt gives the directions, paper piercing, cutting directions, etc. It looks like it might be good one. There are 24 patterns on the first page and I am not sure how many more patterns there are in this website.Happy quilting!

| The Mormon Quilt | | A week or so ago I started a discussion on reaching goals. One of my goals at the time was to finish my younger brother’s quilt, a Mormon quilt. I call it a Mormon quilt simply b/c he’s Mormon and the picture on the quilt is of the St. Louis Temple. Well, it’s finally done…I actually finished it several days ago but had to wait till I could get a pic of it since it takes 2 ppl to hold it up and one to take the pic. I still have to put the batting and the back sheet on it and tack it but here is the top of the quilt for those of you who wanted to see it. I am so glad that the hard part is over with. I think he’ll like it. At the top I put LDS for Latter Day Saints. What do you think? Do you think he’ll like it? If you could pick a design for your, what would it be?**AT PEACE WITHIN**~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

| | I got a new sewing machine | | When I went to law school, I could not take all my stuff with me. Reluctantly, I put my old sewing machine in storage. I really missed it though. Today, I bought a new one. Now I can get to quilting again. Quilting is how I relax. With the bar exam coming up, I need all the relaxation I can get. When I finish a project, I will post pictures.

| What kind of quilt are you making? | | Anyone make any new quilts lately? I'm working on finishing a baby quilt for my brand new nephew. My SIL has his room decorated with baby animals, so I found some adorable material with all kinds of baby animals on it. I found accent colors in blue, brown and yellow. It is turning out to be so cute!My next project will be for my youngest dd. She wants a new quilt for her bedroom in orange, teal and yellow! It may not sound like the best colors to work together, but I bought a couple jelly rolls in those colors and they look great together! Now I just have to have her pick out what she wants it to look like! What are you working on?

| | Has anyone done a T-shirt quilt? Need some help | | I am collecting T-shirts from my 7 year old GD, and want to now make them into a quilt. I've heard about the T-shirt quilt but have not seen a good one (a quicky and in my opinion, hap-hazzard one on a DIY show) but I have heard they can be really nice. Anyone done one? Gan you give me tips, supplies, best way to do it, and anything else you can recommend? I want to hear from those have have done one, not just look at a site with pictures. I can get the directions if i need them, but I'm a quilter from way back, just out of practice. thanks for any tips. | |

| Need help making a T-shirt quilt - T-shirt and cotton squares | | I need some help from you experts... this might be a litte long but I have to say it all so you know what I am trying to do.I am not a newbie to sewing - been sewing since I was 10 and done everything htere is to do with a needle and thread. I loved applique quilting best.So.. what I want to do is make a T-shirt quilt of the little t-shirts my grand daughters wore. One GD is 9 one is 3. I won't go into my first thought of how to do this as I couldn't make the measurements work, so what I have figured is this...IF I make fabric blocks and then mount/applique the front of the shirt to the fabric block..... the front of the t-shirt is the part I am saving - some say something cute about them, others are just really pretty designs, but they wore the shirts and liked them. They each have one that says "Everyone loves a blue eyed girl" as they both have beautiful blue eyes so they wore them together. So,, I cute the front of the t=shirt to fit on the middle of the fabric block. Now the fronts are different sizes as I have bee collecing them for a while now. So I would need to make probably 6x6 blocks for the small fronts and 12x12... | |
| | Always Wanted to Start Quilting -- Here is the Perfect Motivation | | Binky Patrol gives quilts to kids and families who need them. Might be in shelters, might be in foster care, might have lost a loved one. All kinds of people. No special pattern, the only requirements are at least 36 inches square and machine washable. If you can cut and sew squares of fabric together, you can do this. See the site for more encouragement at www.binkypatrol.org

| Embroidery - Is is a lost art? | | When I was younger I would embroider beautiful flowers and designs on pillow cases, table cloths, and clothing. I find it to be very tedious work and haven't done it many years. There are times when I think that I would love to take it up again. I still have some great table linens with beautiful embroidered designs on them. I wish I could get up the ambition to start doing this again. | |
| | I Need Your Opinions Please... | | Ok, I need some personal opinions on something. There is a picture below of several quilts I've made. The first picture with the bird is done all in 2" squares and is the kind I first learned to make. The one next to it is a new kind I've been trying. It has quilt blocks made up of 2" squares and a cross stitch picture in the center. The bottom two pictures is a quilt I found today that I did and forgot about. It has alternating white squares and christmas design squares with the cross stitch angel in the center. The angel even has little beads on the tree and her skirt. My question is which do you like better? With the original kind I'm not able to get much detail but with the cross stitch centered picture I can do a really nice picture and then quilt around it. So, give me your opinions and I promise my feelings won't be hurt:)MERRY CHRISTMAS!!**AT PEACE WITHIN**~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~ | |
